There is a constant saying that rings the following: “It can’t be sin because it just feels right” and “how can it be sin when it makes me happy”. Is there really a line to be drawn with sin even if it doesn’t harm anyone and makes you happy? The answer in plain English is, YES!!!
I once watched a comedy skit about a young man talking about his family and made a joke about how they approached how much fun a person is allowed to have and broke it down as the following – One “Ha” is great. Two “Haha’s” is allowed… but three “Hahaha’s” is completely overboard and against culture. I laughed at this and at first recall saying that it doesn’t even make any sense, but the more I thought about it the more the Holy Spirit has made that clear to me.
Just because something is so much fun, relaxing and enjoyable doesn’t mean that it isn’t sin. Take drinking for example. We have some of our best times and best memories going out drinking, but getting drunk is a sin. Having sex is incredibly fun but doing so outside of marriage is a sin.
These are all things that “feel right” and therefore we come up with excuses to carry on with our behavior. It doesn’t look like sin and it doesn’t feel like sin so how can it possibly be evil?
We as humans have this mentality that if something doesn’t look evil and it doesn’t seem evil then surely it can’t be. The Bible says that the devil ONLY comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) and that he is sly as a fox. Don’t you think that he will do everything in his power to get you away from God including setting up traps for you to fall into? Don’t you think that he has the ability to disguise sin as fun? And use fun as a tool to lure you into sin? Of course sin is fun! It allows you to do whatever you want and feel like especially if it “doesn’t hurt anyone”. Its mindless, doesn’t require any effort and you surely don’t have to follow any rules – sounds ideal.
That’s not God’s laws though. God has commandments that we should uphold. We can’t just say yes to everything. God has given us free will and therefore we can choose whether we want to obey and stay within the lines or whether we want to be worldly and follow a sense of self rather than God.
Don’t be fooled! Sin is meant to be fun to trap you in hell for all eternity!!
So the next question would obviously be – if there is a thing as too much fun and basically every earthly thing is fun then are we just not allowed to indulge in or enjoy anything on earth? Is everything off limits and a sin? Why even bother what’s the point?
The point is that the one who comes to seek, kill and destroy is in this world. Unfortunately most of humanity are not believers and follow that sense of self. These are the people who set up businesses, promote alcohol usage, sell sex toys and pornography. All these stimulants that are advertised as “fun”, “right” and “love is love” that cause eternal hell. They too are fooled and have a veil over their eyes. They have become “worldly”.
So at a glance it seems like us Christians can’t enjoy anything… but the truth is that this world is not what God has created or intended it to be. It has instead become flooded with worldly views and activities which is why the Bible tells us not to be worldly. It’s not that we aren’t allowed to enjoy anything on earth it’s just that everything on earth has become polluted and sick.
So what now? Must you just give up ’cause everything is sin and it seems impossible to even get to Heaven?
Here is the truth of the matter, honest and cold – you can disagree all you want. Sin is sin. The Bible is truth. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and whether you like it or not He makes the rules. You can choose to rebel all you want it won’t change anything, you will just spite yourself and end up in hell alone.
It doesn’t matter whether you “feel” like it’s “fair” or whether you agree or not. You are not the creator of Heaven and earth and your opinion doesn’t matter.
I don’t know about you, but I would rather miss out on all the “fun” this life has to offer and go to Heaven, than even take a chance and end up in burning in hell for all eternity.
That being said, God loves you with all His heart and he truly wants you to be saved more than anything in the world!!! But it is better to be cruel, to be kind. Being “nice” will not change your current train of thought and will enable and encourage more bad behavior.
Trust in the Lord, God and Saviour. His word is life. His life is eternal, choose now to follow Him and ALL of his ways. There is NO OTHER WAY.
You are loved!
Shalom.
